Christine Graham has worked for 25 years in the community safety and domestic abuse sector. Most recently she has chaired/authored over seventy Domestic Homicide Reviews nationally. As she draws to retirement, she has turned her focus back to the city that is her home. Christine has been a member at Bretton Baptist Church for nearly 40 years and is currently their Safeguarding Trustee. Christine has also been volunteering for Restored and working as a freelance trainer for them. Bretton Baptist Church is now working towards becoming a Restored Beacon Church (with the launch on 18th May). This accreditation recognises that our church will not tolerate abuse but will provide a safe refuge for survivors, journey with them on their road to recovery and demonstrate God’s deep love for them. The support we offer is to anyone, whatever their faith or none but we do know, from research undertaken by Restored that 1 in 4 people in churches will be experiencing, or have experienced, domestic abuse. Whilst many of the issues they face are common to all survivors, being a person of faith can bring its own specific challenges, and we are committed to supporting survivors.

Rachael trained to be an interpreter and graduated in 2017 when she joined CDA as an admin assistant. Alongside qualifying as a Registered Sign Language Interpreter, she qualified Care Act Advocate (2019) and IDVA (2021). Her passion is to address the inequalities faced by people in the Deaf community and aim to strive to provide equal services to the deaf community rather than a lesser or delayed service. Her personal drive was ignited when she recognised that GCSE science was not accessible with restricted communication support workers offered to a Deaf friend. Her desire to continue to address these inequalities seemed to match perfectly with the values at CDA to improve Deaf people’s well-being, health and improve equalities.
The Domestic Abuse Support Service (DASS) works to understand the needs and wishes of the individual and develop appropriate support and safety plans.
