Housekeeping Shift Leader – Queensgate Shopping Centre (Full-Time)

As a Housekeeping Shift Leader at Queensgate Shopping Centre, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and overall presentation of one of the region's premier retail destinations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and assist the Soft Services Cleaning Manager in their duties.
  • Ensure that employees are trained and that all relevant records are maintained effectively.
  • Adhere to Savills Company Policies & Procedures by all employees at all times.
  • Liaise with Retailers & Department Teams as and when required.
  • Supervise employees to ensure all specified cleaning standards are maintained, highlighting any issues to the Soft Services Cleaning Manager.
  • Induct new/relief staff to ensure they understand role requirements and expectations, completing training records and refreshing these as required.
  • Monitor attendance and timekeeping of employees, notifying the Soft Services Cleaning Manager of any relief requirements, and escalating failures to adhere to the local absence reporting procedure.
  • Ensure all employees wear the correct uniform, are polite, and represent Savills positively.
  • Inform the Soft Services Cleaning Manager of any vacancies and assist in recruiting as required.
  • Monitor cleaning materials, ensuring availability on-site in an appropriate location.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties/requests commensurate with this position as designated by the Shift Leader / Soft Services Cleaning Manager / Facilities Manager / Client / Company.
  • Supervise and coordinate periodic works as required.
  • Undertake routine quality audits and take corrective actions within the agreed timeframe.
  • Keep the Cleaning/Environmental Site File & COSHH Files up-to-date, escalating requirements to the Soft Services Cleaning Manager.
  • Undertake own cleaning duties, supporting colleagues and covering them when required.
  • Undertake and deliver training as necessary and appropriate.

Health and Safety

  • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety.
  • Take reasonable care not to put colleagues, members of the public, and others at risk by your actions or inactions.
  • Do not interfere with or misuse anything provided for your health, safety, or welfare.
  • Report any accidents/incidents (personal or third-party) to your line manager immediately.
  • Report any injuries, strains, or illnesses suffered as a result of work activities to your line manager immediately.
  • Inform your line manager if something happens that might affect your ability to work, such as pregnancy or an injury.
  • Inform your line manager if you take medication that may impact your safety and that of others (e.g., drowsiness, confusion, sight/hearing impairment, etc.).
  • Ensure you receive training to undertake work activities safely. Inform your line manager if further training is needed or if you are concerned for your safety.
  • Understand and work according to all risk assessments, training, safe working practices, and Health and Safety Policies.
  • Ensure employees are provided with a quality induction that includes necessary information, instruction, supervision, and training for safely carrying out their duties.
  • Facilitate communication processes and provide feedback as necessary and appropriate.
  • Ensure all equipment within your control is serviced and maintained in a safe condition.
  • Refer any expectant mothers in your team to their line manager for an appropriate risk assessment.
  • Report and record accidents, incidents, ill-health, and near-misses in the workplace.
  • Ensure any sub-contractors employed by Savills on your site have the correct method statement and risk assessment for their activities.
  • Regularly monitor and review health and safety arrangements in liaison with the Soft Services Cleaning Manager for effectiveness.
  • Inform the Soft Services Cleaning Manager of any non-compliance or issues.
  • Be fully aware of your individual and team responsibilities concerning Savills’ Health & Safety Policy Statement.
  • Be responsible for the safe use and care of equipment and materials, and wear appropriate protective clothing as supplied.

Other

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the overall ethos, work, and aims of Savills Management Resources & Queensgate Shopping Centre.
  • Work in accordance with site policies and procedures.
  • Liaise and communicate with other colleagues as needed.
  • Live within commuting distance of the site and have your own independent method of transport.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Experience of working in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
  • Previous cleaning experience within the retail (or similar) industry.

Person Specification

  • Able to lift and carry heavy equipment, furniture, and rubbish.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment as supplied.
  • An effective communicator with a good understanding and proficiency in English.
  • Able to plan and prioritize workload to ensure objectives are achieved on time.
  • Able to identify problems and take appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Able to follow instructions on the use of cleaning materials and machinery.
  • Able to attain a consistent standard of service in cleaning duties.
  • Enjoys and is able to work constructively as part of a team.
  • Able to adhere to manual handling and health and safety regulations as required.
  • Flexible approach to work.
  • Appreciates the need for project completion and practices effective and efficient time management.
  • Methodical approach with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Uses judgment to know when to ask for help and guidance.
  • Takes responsibility for own work and demonstrates initiative.
  • Records information accurately and pays attention to detail.
  • Builds appropriate professional, friendly, and accessible relationships with line managers, colleagues, and tenants.
  • Able to train and coach employees, both formally and informally.
