At Queensgate, we’re proud to support the next generation through meaningful partnerships with local schools, youth organisations, and national charities. From creative projects to educational events, we create opportunities for young people to learn, express themselves, and feel supported in their community.
Honesty Library
Queensgate’s Honesty Library is a quiet place on the mall for people to enjoy the pleasures of reading.
The literature corner features dozens of books donated by local people that includes anything from a Jane Austen romance to a reality star’s biography. There are also plenty of children’s books too that parents and guardians can read together and engage young people’s creative minds. Customers can either relax in the upcycled chairs made from old bathtubs – kindly created and donated by Up the Garden Bath – or take a book home.
Promoting Literacy with the National Literacy Trust
In partnership with the National Literacy Trust, we deliver free, fun, family-friendly events that promote reading and storytelling, particularly for Key Stage 2 children. Highlights include:
- World Book Day book giveaways
- The Little Stories Festival featuring live performances and interactive storytelling
These events take place during term time and school holidays, encouraging families to engage with books in an exciting and accessible way.
Creative Collaborations with Local Schools
We regularly collaborate with schools across Peterborough to bring students’ creativity into the centre. From Remembrance poppy displays to handmade Christmas decorations, pupils help transform Queensgate with seasonal artwork that celebrates both tradition and imagination. We also attend school welcome events and continue to support a variety of school-led initiatives throughout the year.
Peterborough Youth Council – Uniform Swap Shop
We work with the Peterborough Youth Council and local schools to support families with the cost of school essentials. Our Uniform Swap Shop and stationery giveaways help ease financial pressure while promoting sustainable practices by reusing good-quality school uniforms.
