Biodiversity: Nurturing Nature in the Heart of the City

At Queensgate, sustainability isn’t just about recycling—it’s about rewilding.

We’re proud to support local biodiversity through green initiatives that help pollinators, insects, and native wildlife thrive in our urban environment.

Wildflower Meadow

On the corner of Queensgate roundabout by green car park sits our wildflower meadow brings a burst of natural colour to the city. Carefully planted with a mix of native species, it provides a vital food source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators—supporting biodiversity and helping to reverse the decline in local insect populations.

Bug Hotel in the Shape of a Q

We have taken our commitment one step further with a bespoke bug hotel shaped like the letter ‘Q’ nestled in the heart of our wildflower meadow —a playful nod to Queensgate and a serious home for nature. This unique structure offers a haven for solitary bees, ladybirds, and other beneficial insects that contribute to a healthy ecosystem.

Together, these projects transform underused space into thriving habitats, inspiring our visitors and leading by example in sustainable placemaking.

🌱 Small spaces, big impact—because even in the heart of the city, nature deserves a home.

Tree Planting with Jangro

We recently planted four Silver Birch saplings in our wildflower meadows as part of the Nurture by Jangro scheme. These trees, each with a unique QR code for growth tracking, will absorb over 3 tonnes of CO₂ in their lifetime—securing a lasting environmental legacy for our community.

Over 80% of our tenants have joined our Growing Greener initiative, reducing CO₂ by nearly 3,000 tonnes and saving over 3,500 m³ of water annually. These improvements help tenants cut costs by around 31% and build a greener business model.
