Guide Dogs UK Charity Partnership
Queensgate look back on wonderful partnership with Guide Dogs UK after 2 years and welcome new initiative with Changing Spaces
On the 1 January 2021, Queensgate Shopping Centre em-’barked’ on a new Charity Partnership with Guide Dogs UK. After a wonderful 2 years, that partnership has now come to an end after raising £6207.63 for the charity
Guide Dogs UK – who work to help blind and partially sighted people across the UK through the provision of guide dogs, mobility, and other rehabilitation services – offer the opportunity to name a guide dog puppy from six-weeks-old. After 24 months of training, the named pup will then begin to support a blind or partially sighted person here in the UK. Queensgate also launched a competition to name the puppy, which resulted in the puppy being named Mabel.
Over the years, Mabel has frequently visited Queensgate Shopping Centre to say hello to customers, and also as part of her training, which certainly put a smile on people’s faces.
Mandy Loveder, Community Fundraising Relationship Manager for Guide Dogs, said:
“We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Queensgate Shopping Centre for partnering with us and for raising enough money to name a guide dog puppy Mabel via our Name a Puppy scheme.“
Thanks also to all the members of the public who donated their money at the Queensgate centre to support us.
“As a charity, Guide Dogs relies almost entirely on public donations to keep our vital services for people with sight loss running, so we’re so grateful to organizations’, like Queensgate Shopping Centre, for choosing to partner with us.”
Katie Chapman, Marketing Manager at Queensgate Shopping Centre said:
“We had such a great time working with Guide Dogs UK, and Mabel raising awareness of this wonderful charity that offers a lifeline to so many people. It was fantastic to engage the community in naming our puppy and watching her journey from pup in training, to guide dog”.
This month, Queensgate are now set to launch its new Changing Spaces initiative that invites local charitable organisations to apply for a £500 project fee.
The scheme has been designed by Queensgate to support local community projects and will commence with four projects each year. Whether it’s renovating a Scout Hut, transforming wasteland into a flowered garden, or purchasing equipment to help those in need, Changing Spaces aims to help support projects across Peterborough.
